A common issue we face in multi-device environments is making sure the interface experience is universal for all users. Tablets and laptops are almost never set up to perpetuate the same settings as standard desktops or the server, leading to discrepancies and minimized windows.
On the Inform Client
The solution, is to simplify the Windows client experience through Compatibility settings. Start by closing all open instances of Inform, then performing the following:
Windows 7
- Right-click the Inform shortcut on the Desktop and choose Properties.
- Switch to the Compatibility tab, then under Settings, put a check mark next to Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Re-launch Inform, then navigate to a menu where you can search (Sales Order, Invoice Inquiry, Product Master, etc.) to confirm that all screens maintain their proportions.
Windows 10
- Right-click the Inform shortcut on the Desktop and choose Properties.
- Switch to the Compatibility tab, then under Settings, choose Change high DPI settings.
- Under High DPI scaling override, select the Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: check box, and then and change the drop-down from Application to System.
- Click OK, then click Apply, then OK.
Inform RemoteApp
The behavior of the RemoteApp shortcut is complicated by several factors. Typically, the shortcut on users’ workstations has a list of optimal display behaviors established by default. However, since the interface is established as a virtual desktop session, there are additional factors that need to be considered when tuning the scaling behaviors:
- Windows Updates: Always make sure the latest patches and updates have been installed on the workstation(s) and the RDS server.
- Display hardware: Always make sure the connections are solid and that the hardware is not changing from day-to-day. Always completely log out of, and back into, the same user account(s).
Currently, for the best display results, since the properties and performance of RemoteApp are controlled primarily by the local machine, the following settings must be enabled:
Windows 10:
- Right-click on the Desktop and choose Display settings.
- Change the Scale and layout to 100%.
- Change the Resolution to 1920 x 1080 in Landscape orientation.
- If required, sign out of Windows, then sign back in to make these changes take effect.
- Locate the root DDI inForm.rdp file in C:\temp, then open it in Notepad.
- Change the desktopwidth attribute value to 1920 and the desktopheight value to 1080.
- Save the file, then right-click install.bat and Run as administrator.
