Pivot Views are subsets of your data that allow you to reorganize and summarize business data to create a custom report.
These custom reports can answer specific questions, such as
- "What were my top selling products last year?"
- "What is my 12 month demand for each product by warehouse?"
By turning (pivoting) the data and allowing you to view it from different perspectives. For example, you can view sales by product for each customer or sales for each customer by product. The information is in the pivot table is the same, but you can report on it differently depending on how you organize it. You are in charge of arranging the information in a way that is important to you and your business so you can analyze strengths and weaknesses.
The Pivot View reports are powered by the Business Intelligence Data Warehouse. This means that the data is built and refreshed through an automated process each night. Minor discrepancies in data may be due to transactions posted to the system after the database update; however, Inform ERP performance will not be impacted by building the reports.
Since all pivot reports are custom made, you should use pivot views to create pivot reports only if you can't find the information you are looking for in any of Inform ERP's built in reports or Dashboard KPIS.
To learn how to work with pivot tables in Inform, first review the Sample procedures which guide you step by step to success. Then dig into more detail with the other procedures on working with the tables and reports as needed.
Important: The number of rows that display in any pivot report are controlled by the setting File > Company > Master: Company Information, Number of Rows to Display in Pivot Table Explorer. This limit enables you to balance a useful number of records against performance. If you choose to display too many records, performance will suffer, possibly resulting in out of memory errors. The totals will always include all of your data, not just the limited rows displayed. You will know that there is more data available if you see the message, "View Row Exceeded Limit."
