Use this quick import to create a monthly Excel sheet of G/L account balances. This content is extremely useful when running a re-index because it efficiently captures “before” and “after” balances.
This report, when exported to Excel, will provide monthly account balances in order of G/L account number. Note that these are period-beginning values.
- Go to Analytics > Advanced Report Writer.
- On the Advanced Report Writer Definitions page, click New.
- Assign a name for the report. Avoid characters that are disallowed when saving files.
- Clear the Generate Layout check box.
- From the Export Option list, choose Without Layout.
- Click the Settings tab. The tabs will appear at the bottom of the window for users of Version 17 and lower. The tabs appear on the left side of the window for users of Version 18 and higher.
- Click the Import Layout button. You will return to Windows.
- Choose the provided Monthly GL Balance Report (for GL Re-Index).irw file.
The following message appears:
- Click OK to continue.
A notification message appears when complete:
- Click OK to continue and return to the Definitions page.

All of the columns should line up, reducing the manual work needed to “stitch together” several individually run files.
